These were disappointing. Your 18 pound dogs removed the yellow layer of fuzz in 10-15 minutes. My dogs love these. I gave them four stars because they are easily chewed. These are made to squeek and to play fetch. It is NOT a chew toy. If you are looking for a chew toy, don't buy these, the Kong SQUEEZZ toys are a better option. Do not leave your dogs alone if you know they will chew them up, as they can easily become a choking hazard or they may swallow them; leaving you with a huge vet bill. Throw them away as soon as a hole is made. With that being said, they are not chew toys, so I can't blame Kong for my dog's issues. They squeek for a long time and it is rather loud, but not as loud as the Kong SQUEEZZ products- which is great for my sanity. Out of all the toys in their box, they pull these balls out the most. They bounce like a tennis ball and the medium size is about the size of a tennis ball, so my larger dogs won't swallow them. It is a bit big for my heelers mouth, but he still can squeeze them. Medium is the best choice size for all my dogs to enjoy.I am working with my dogs on how to play with them. My dogs which are two pits, a presa canario and a queensland heeler, have different ways of playing with them. My presa canario has a hard time starting holes in the balls because of his big paws and mouth. His feet can't hold it while he tires to chew it- it just doesn't work. He is only successful when the other two get a hole in it first. My heeler will just squeek and squeek away. However, if the other dogs have made a whole he will find it and use his little teeth to pull it apart. They would last a long time with him, if it weren't for my other dogs. My bigger dogs will also bite them so they squeek; but if I do not supervise them, they will easily tear them apart in minutes. When I watch them, I tell them, "No" everytime they start chewing and praise them when they throw themselves the ball or just squeeze them. It is taking some time to teach them and I went through the twelve balls in about three months. I am buying another pack because they enjoy them so much. They could smell them through the box and were excited when I got the box. They were pushing on the box, staring and waiting for me to open in it. I didn't smell anything odd though. My dog (50 lb. Springer Spaniel) LOVES these balls, so I gave them 4 stars. I just wish they'd last a big longer. They tend to split open after 5-10 rounds of fetch. My Springer doesn't have a "hard" mouth, so I'm guessing these last longer for him than some other stronger jawed breeds with hard mouths, but I still thinks that's not long-lasting enough when you consider that we play fetch EVERY DAY ... and many times 2x a day. They work perfectly in my Chuck It launcher, and that's a huge plus. Tennis balls are just a bit too big and don't come out of the launcher as easily. They also take on water more easily than similar balls because of the squeaker. No matter, I just squeeze out the water between throws and that also gives my pup a chance to rest. : ) By the way, I rinse the ball off each time we're finished playing fetch ... I figure it prolongs the life even more. Overall, I really like these balls and would recommend them if your dog isn't too hard in the mouth. Our German Sheppard absolutely loves the Kong SqueakAir Balls! She carries them around, squeaking, while rolling a 2nd with her paws. Cannot keep them packed away in the toy box for long as she is always after them! Mistakingly tried a cheaper knockoff brand recently, couldn't compress their ball in my hand to squeak, neither could the Sheppard! It was like getting a bad Christmas gift, with no one to re-gift to. The Sheppard seemed depressed until the package of new Kong SqueakAir Balls arrived, she pulled the package off the counter, wanting to take them out and play. Never going back to the cheap knockoffs, go Kong, or go Home! The balls are a good size for medium dogs. The internal squeaker is a plus. The balls hold up well for the hundreds of throws experienced and a dog who constantly squeaks the ball when he is being taken out for exercise. He then squeaks the ball constantly upon his return for another throw. The ball continues to squeak in spite of splits in the ball. The covering seems to hold enough together for quite some time in spite of the enthusiasm demonstrated by my dog. During wet weather, the ball gets quite dirty but it is easy to rinse off in the sink after play. Warning: several pet owners I have spoken to agree that once your dog learns about this Kong ball, they will refuse to fetch any other ball. My dog takes non-Kong balls out to the north forty, never to be seen again!!My dog loves these squeaky balls, he can play with them for hours. He dumps them in his water dish, pushes them in the pool, will throw them in the air himself if no one will play with him. They are very strong and last for a long time. He loves to chew the fuzz off of them, leaving a string of fuzz so he can fling it into the air. He's an aggressive chewer and these balls are the only ones that stand up to his play.I bought the package of 12 so that I'd always have a fresh one on hand, put the box on the floor still sealed. The dog went wild when he realized what's inside and opened the box himself. The medium balls will work great in a Chuck-It.I found these Kong Tennis Balls while looking for new balls for Elvis’ Outdoor K-9 Cannon and his Indoor Nerf Launcher. The price was right and they looked pretty sturdy to me, which is a must for such an active Breed. He lost it when he spied the bag of Kong Balls and immediately started vocalizing his excitement to go try them out. He loves that they squeak, first of all, and we love that they are tough and can take a beating, especially outside where the true test really begins. These tennis balls have proven their mettle so far, and since he’s so happy, we will definitely purchase them from now on!If it doesn't squeek she's not interested in chasing it. A plain old tennis ball just won't do. She loves these Kong balls. Great price for a total of 12 balls. I give her one every month and toss the old ones away. Some last longer than a month, others dont. She plays with them a ton. Highly recommend for the dog that loves playing fetch.
